Butt sailing remains a highly useful skill throughout our windsurfing career. I use it for crossing dense weed beds, for crossing vast wind shadows, for self-rescue with an injury, for getting back to shore when the wind drops to 5 mph and slogging is too much frigging work, for towing other people, for maneuvering around/over fishing nets/buoys/rocks, and more. It can save a lot of energy and hassle, especially with little boards.
