Probably Laughing

On Riggeek -James Douglass says I can get going in 6 knots with an 11m. So not imposible.

But let's say I stick to the 7 knot min and get a 10m. What sails are best for light wind formula?

The bigger they get, the harder they are to pump. We are seeing this big time with foiling where pumping is huge. Guys are going bigger with little effect.

Price out that jumbo rig compared to a foil...

6 knots to plane is the standard limit with FW gear from the early days. Big pumping, high volume and a massively powerful fin. My Gaastra Nitro IV 11.0, AHD 98NT would plane in 6 knots if everything was perfect, meaning high pressure wind, salt water, powerful fin and unerring technique. 8 knots is a more reasonable limit.

wind is a fickle thing ...
.
here gusty is the standard - on the local inland lakes
we call them lakes even though they are all part of the St Lawrence River
when they say 20 kph ~ 10 knot winds, winds will also be lower ...
thus THAT is my wind minimum - for longboard + 8.5 sails
as a lazy heavyweight 12 knots for JP SLW92 and TR-4 10 m sail
since atlas.55 is a lightweight at 140 pounds ...
with a 10 m sail and the SB Formula 162 s/b fine in about 8 knots ??
with that 66-70 cm fin
