Did both for a few years. maybe 07-10.
Never got excited about it.

SUP took over for wave fun
Better cross over for wave sailing than kiting.

thought the "hot dogs" do both ??
Robby Naish does windsurf, kitesurf, SUP, windfoil, etc , etc
locally yvente and Georges do both
although ... in Georges' case, if he can kite, he will
the beauty of kiting in the cold north is ...
you can do it on skis or a snowboard in the winter
i am one of the few who windsurf here on ice n snow
we don't get the nice conditions like the iceratz in NE USA

I wouldn't say quit, though I have met others that have. I've been back and forth over the years where might have been 80/20% ks/ws but for the most part now I have less the bug for kiting so more like 10/90% ks/ws.

It is a bit of an adjustment when I do go out as always feel rusty and for sure not at the level or confidence to do certain tricks as maybe 4 years ago. Nor do the shoulders how up to anything unhooked so keep things moderate!

I am working a short vid with both our local kiting and windsurfing so when done I'll post it as should be finished soon. This is a vid I did last year when had the chance to do a double dip, windsurf in the morning then kite in the afternoon when a tropical storm passed by.

When. I started windsurfing in '83, it was to go fast, jump high, and rip g force turns. Kiting satisfies one of those, and lacks the feel.

Just uploaded the new vid. Hopefully I divided the windsurfing and kiteboarding footage evenly! Laughing

Cool videos. Bermuda looks like a really pretty place to sail and kite.

It's a great place to windsurf.............spectacular water, waves, bump and jump and speed spots. Good launch sites for every wind direction. Only a couple of hours from NY, Boston, Philly. Well worth a visit.

I am in Bermuda pretty regularly. Sometimes I sail there - either the Newport-Bermuda race, or for deliveries on the way to the caribbean - and sometimes I fly there for regattas.

I'll be there in November to sail IOD's - my third trip in a year.

I hardly ever see any windsurfing. I see lot's of kiting - especially at Somerset Long Bay. A few years ago I raced Lasers out of Spanish Point YC, and saw a lot of windsurfing gear there. I think I saw spanish point in the first video.

ScottyBM- Do you know anything abut Island Winds? Seems like they might have some decent gear for rent

http://www.islandwindsbermuda.com/product.php/128/14/bermuda-windsurfing-rentals-island-winds

If the weather looks good maybe I'll stay a few extra days in november...

hey that is cool!

Do you sail with a local crew on the IOD's or are part of a team that comes down to man one? I sail out of Spanish Point so possible we've crossed paths.

Yes Island Winds would have a variety from beginner to advanced kit in Ezzy/NP/JP/Starboard in top condition. I use them for when I get my new gear.

We've gotten off topic, but I'm enjoying learning about Bermuda! It's not very far from NC and might make a great windsurf vacation! What months are best to visit?
