Anybody out there sailed and/or still own a 2008 Mistral 94L Red Dot Syncro … the “technora kevlar custom sandwich” version with the Red Dot logo on top of the very tail and near the finbox on the bottom?

Is the 2008 shape significantly improved over previous Syncros?

Does the Red Dot version feel significantly lighter than the standard “composite sandwich” version?

If so, and you live anywhere near the Columbia River Gorge, do you wanna sell it? The older my carcass gets, the more it appreciates flotation.

Likely.
Perhaps.
Hell yes
Hell no.

The RedDot I had was a genuine jewel. Not had a Mistral or NAISH Mistral that I didn’t like/luv.
Would a 10yo board be the cats meow...?
Unkiley.
Perhaps.
Hell yes
Hell no.

The 2008 94 litre RD Syncro was tested by one of our sponsored competitor dealers at the time, who rated it highly for B&J and waves, but he also highly enthused about the original 74 litre Evo. (To put his preferences in context.)

Since that Syncro is a Marcilio Brown and Nick baker design, it likely requires more than average ability to get the best out of it. (I had a Baker designed Mistral Razor 74 litre wave board which was more than usually difficult to get to grips with at my level. Even Boards mag testers stated that they would have liked more time to master it.)

The only negative feed back from those who really were highly capable was an inclination to snapping. But they were all extreme loopers.

There can't be many sound boards left after all this time.

I need only one. Smile

I still occasionally find flawless boards 10-15 years old, for many reasons. I've bought many mint boards for anywhere from $50 to $200 that outperform almost any board I've ever ridden at any price. The only new board I've liked better is one particular Naish Wave.

I have met only one Mistral or Naish board that didn't really impress me. I have ridden dozens, owned > a dozen, and still have and "luv" at least 9. The one that impressed me least was Mistral's highly touted Red Dot Wave. I bought a mint one on reputation, found it boring, and sold it immediately to a Red Dot Wave devotee for a 400% profit. We both got a good deal.

I like Syncros, and hear good things about the 2008 RD version. Thus this thread.

Could be wrong, but I think my 2008 RD , was designed by Mike Nelson,
Further this could have been the last year of that Mistral company.

Yes, sorry U2, Mike Nelson shaped it but the other two were claimed to have had a lot of input, especially Baker who was associated with Mistral at the time.

Baker also had an updated Mistral prototype racing longboard shaped, to rival the Phantoms (photographed sailing it) but it never went into production. We were never told why but perhaps it also had something to do with the Mistral changes?? (Or was it just no real advance on the Phantoms and old Equipe boards?) I guess we will never know!

Didn't Anders Bringdal buy Mistral around that time? I think that he would have had lots of input in board design.

Anders, took over Mistral in 2009. For 2010
Boards, 2008 and 09 were shaped by Mark Nelson. Who was not invited to remain at Mistral.
