Well said Coachg, and Greg - but I don't think he's listening! (He's telling us!)

No , actually I am listening and Coachg has the rare gift of being very clear, (perhaps because he is a coach) , unlike me, I admit, for whom, English is not the native tongue, in spite of my best efforts..But I really thought I spelled out clearly what I wanted.
Coachg has understood me very well.
If anybody had replied with the same clarity, instead of gratuitously surmising that I am not listening, I'd have rested my case a lot earlier.
Cheers.

rarely do i respond to some that seem to listen not. time is precious.
banana rocker surfing SUP's typically only plane in gales.
no matter how much extra sail one applies to these type of boards, especially in low winds, no planing will result.
if one wishes to plane in light winds, one needs a flatter rocker. or a foil.

Not me, I don't have any experience with Aerotech sails.

Beginner boards are great for beginners but limit you from improvement.

I don't know if I'd call it the "best", but Bic has been selling their Techno series on Amazon for about half price. I picked up a Techno 185 for $711 (including tax and free shipping). Once the weather warms up I'll report on it's performance.

agree that the COMP is NOT in the same category as the Equipes, CATS, etc
however, it does fine for sub-planing in light winds - like for Franco
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdpwA67nWeU
as far as the BIC Techno goes, Franco has had the 160 version - around 2008
did not know there was a 185
similar in size to a Viper 80 ...
too bad the SB RIO 275x80.5 cm did not work out for Franco ...

Time is precious for me too, yet I'll respond because you yourself don't seem to be listening to what I have said over and over again, namely that I AM NOT INTERESTED in PLANING as a first priority, because of the conditions here.
Once you understand (will you ever?!) my SUBPLANING perspective you will perhaps understand that I do listen, although not uncritically.. Why do you keep bringing up the planing argument as a response ?
Indeed, I am not in the habit of accepting ideas or suggestions without understanding, as much as I can, the reasons behind.
Unfortunately some people are better at criticising and curtly dismissing others than at providing answers beyond general statements.
There are many knowledgeable members in this Forum ( coachg is one of them and I must commend him again) who have been of help because of their clarity and willingness to LISTEN without casting hasty judgments.
I wish you were one of them!
Somebody else in another Forum , who also posts in this Forum, went even as far a providing a formula explaining the forces acting on the hull and sail and their interactions.
Although much of it was based on physics and I was unable to fully grasp the maths, as probably most of us, he provided a short conceptual translation, which made me immediately understand the relationship between hull length, width and planing and dispelled a misconception I had.
What I had so far be unable to understand is why wide and short boards are commonly considered as the paradigm of efficient planing, if 65 cm wide , 350 cm long boards on the opposite end, seem to do just as well.
Part of the explanation, as I came to see, lies in something as simple as Newton 3rd law and, as well, in the relationship between length of the hull and maximum hull subplaning speed.
I can certainly see how some, perhaps most windsurfers, don't worry about theory and they simply live by the motto " just do it and enjoy it!
It is their prerogative to conceive and enjoy windsurfing only as planing or whichever way they want, and be deaf( or blind) to other styles and equipments, or perhaps frown on them as.. beginners's stuff, but then, but then I fail to see how those who ask questions and are not satisfied by the stock answers of the " majority" of the experts ( even more so that often there is not even agreement between the experts) should be blamed for not listening!
