Has anyone tried to mount a waterproof gimbal to a GoPro while windsurfing ? Just about every GoPro video I've ever made has the horizon shaking allover the place. Gets very tiring to watch. |

Most models have image stabilization now. Or you can post process it. Where do you mount yours? I sail super crappy waters but my videos turn out ok without using any stabilization. _________________ *NEW* - Manu's Windsurfing Blog, The STORE! |

it does not get rougher than this attempt at windskiing
mount on boom and would be better on water

looking for something you mount eye level POV style. Image stabilization works alright but it won't eliminate the ever shifting horizon. And if you use higher frame rates, stabilization is not available on the GoPro. |

one's own gimbal for not much? |
Helmet cams are not a good idea with windsurfing. Far too easy to puncture a panel in your sail. Most likely to happen during beach and waterstarts. |

check out the boom clew mount at:
clew-view dot com
It produces much better video than a helmet mount, you can see what the sailor is doing and it doesn't turn with the sailor head.

I've never seen that happen, and I have lots of friends with helmet cams
mounted topside..........
but my helmet cam mount is on the side of the helmet, works great.

Side should be OK. Top is bad. Even when you remove the camera the mount remains. If you are the type of person who likes to rest their sail on their head during beach starts; or you cary your sail on your head to and from the beach, the mount can put a serious dimple in your sail. Side might might be OK. I would not sail with a top mounted head mount. |
