Flymounts work very well. They clamp on to a boom or mast solidly and do not wiggle much.

I too had wondered about a gimbal/Steadicam mounted on the boom. I've never tried it but I am curious if one of these from eBay would work between the Flymount and camera. The whole thing mounted to the boom. Just not sure about durability in the water, sand, and salt.

If you are going to wear it on your head, I would highly recommend the Gopro Hero Session. It is small, sits lower which helps reduce swing weight & because it does not require a waterproof case it is so much lighter.

I need to carry on my head to get out of the shorebreak and walk long distances. I try to rest my gear on my shoulder and lift up with my hands and use the wind too. But it's only 105L + 5.0 max.

No, top is not "bad". It works quite well. The caveats for carrying the rig on your head is legitimate, but for those of us who are not carrying our sails on our heads it's of no importance. Top of head works extremely well.

Side should be OK. Top is bad. Even when you remove the camera the mount remains. If you are the type of person who likes to rest their sail on their head during beach starts; or you cary your sail on your head to and from the beach, the mount can put a serious dimple in your sail. Side might might be OK. I would not sail with a top mounted head mount.
