I’m familiar with the kite spots. Any place to sail besides Bird Island?

Never been to bird island but it just seems odd to only have one place to sail?
What about spots in SPI? |

Orleader beach for bunp and jump.
True North beach for slalom on N winds.
Carpenter and Port Aransas for shorepound waves.
Drive down to SPID for mellow waves, speedditch,oe BI type flatwater. |

Yep... I think it's spelled Oleander Point. That's a great place. I sailed the US National's there a couple years ago. If it's windy it's not a easy as all along the inside of the Gulf Islands... but it is more interesting. _________________ Greg

Yep, Oleander (actually Cole Park) and Bird Island are the most popular places. Bird Island - flat shallow water (can stand most places). Oleander can get good swell in winds above 25 mph for great jumping. Corpus Christi bay is not deep so the wave period is somewhat short. On a southeast wind (prevailing and side shore) it a nice launch with tons of grass, but you have to walk down a somewhat steep dirt trail for 50' to get to the small beach or there are some stairs.
If you look on Google maps, the sailing site is south of the main park where you find a smaller parking lot, across from Oleander Ave. |

Packery Channel on southerly winds, and Port Aransas on northerly winds, are good places to wave sail. |

Agree with all of these locations. Also in the Bay to some extent the local sailors now go just down the road from oleander to a hotel called Emerald Beach (just Google it) from which you can launch. Pretty similar to oleander but a bit better swell right near the shore. They have showers and a place to rig. If you're sailing the bay I'd check there first.
Also on the coast, Bob Hall Pier, bigger waves, but no jetty for protection, so go on a day when it's very windy and you'll have enough power to fight the current. |

BIB is a great spot with plenty of parking and WorldWinds right there. It's a favorite for beginners and intermediates since the water is shallow and the chop is small. You'll usually see slalom sailors out there, too. It can be great for speed if the wind is easterly enough to allow runs along the shore lines, or in northerlies.
If you like to be able to stand when you fall and smooth water, try Grassy Point (Bluffs Landing). It's well worth the $5 fee you have to pay at the Marina store. You can do three mile long runs there, and walk back the entire way if something breaks. You'll usually need a weed fin, but you sometimes need one at BIB, too. Unlike BIB, there will be kiters at Grassy Point, but there's plenty of space. More at http://boardsurfr.blogspot.com/2018/02/naughty-at-grassy-point.html |
