Hi Gang,

As Leo locals know we have had a sensor at Leo for over 20 years since it is one or most critical Southern California weather stations. When the sensor failed last year we put Leo into the repair queue for the West Coast sensor repair team. Our expectation was that we would get permission from the host to do a repair as we have done in the past.

To make a very long story short this time the host denied us repair access and permission to use the location. We are in continuing negotiations with the host and it will definitely NOT help if people bother the host. We are also pursuing other nearby locations like county line.

Below is my most recent email from Ben & Stuart who are spearheading this effort.

Mike Godsey, in Baja with unreliable internet connection!

"We want to apologize for the ongoing situation with the Leo Carrillo station. The challenges with this site run deeper than a simple site visit to upgrade instruments or communications. We have enjoyed providing weather data from this location for over 20 years. Unfortunately, due to changes in the host's policies, we have been locked in a dialogue with them to retain permission for the location. Meanwhile, because we recognize the value of weather data from this site, we are also actively investigating other possible locations. Feel free to share your input with us."

One wonders whether the surfers are now winning the game at Leo Carrillo.

Winter has never been the best time for surf at Leo but if the sensor isn't fixed by the time the summer thermals and south swells hit then I'm sure Malibuguru won't mind posting alerts of good conditions. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Yes, Radio Shack does.

The Surfline web cam for County Line is a good indicator of wind and swell and the NOAA sensor on the hill above Leo also a good indicator. I have been using both for years.
