Berkeley again, day 5 this year. Came in just before the microburst—38 mph from the east, plus hail. I came in because my hands were cold, not because I was smart enough to see it coming.

Six days in 6 days 2/22-2/27. I don't think in 34 years of sailing the Bay Area that has ever happened. Mix of Bay and coast. Anywhere from powered 4.5 to float and ride. 12 days sailing so far this year. 11 of them in February (with one 4.0 day). I know I missed at least three days this month to life beyond windsurfing - is there such a thing? Its been an incredible February. Bring on 2018!

Nope Bert. I'm still working on that. But with kids grown and out of the house, my schedule is more flexible in the last couple of years. 5 more years and I start winding down, but will likely never retire completely. Keep paving the way and I will follow. Your foiling is an intriguing path to pursue once my suspension starts to go. For now, I'm still able to navigate the waves and swell on a planing hull. I've added surfing to the mix - started at age 48, now 54. I'm bad but occasionally find myself on the right part of the wave. Add 8 days surfing on top of the 12 sailing for 2018 and I'm (hopefully) gonna stay in play and throw some spray. I found this one from a few years back on SwellRipper's Instagram - shearing the head off a Third Ave lump.

Berkeley not too bad..starting lite at 2 rising to solid 19 or so in the gusts.
Plenty for 5.2 and foil, with some nice swells at 3 for gliding.
One 6.7 and formula, one 7.4 and 118 freeride, both very powered.

Lonely day at the Stick. While Crissy is in the fog the Stick delivers enough breeze to happily plane with Isonic 111 + Switchblade 7.3. Tomorrow probably a repeat ... instead not ... south easterly and then a VERY weak west ...

Nice Friday at Berkeley 2-5. 5.2 and 92 wave mostly, but 5.7 would have been better. Now weighing 165, about 10 more with wetsuit, booties, harness, and trunks.
A few more people out, almost looking like the season is starting.

Berkeley Wed.
Drove up as it dropped, but hoping for a return rigged 6 and 109 Freeride.
First sess a slogfest in what I thought was 4-12 mph. Lightwind foilers not nearly planing on 6's.
2nd sess planing 70 %, as it came back up to maybe 12-20. Lasted 1/2 hour or around 30 jibes.
Then it wavered on the cusp for another hour as lightweight foilers were able to get up, for short foiling runs.

The season is restarting after the good February and disappointing March (MTB!). Got a 4.3 very powered up at Crissy few days ago (everybody was there! probably starved by 3 weeks of variable winds and rain), and then a great 7.3 at Stick Saturday, followed up yesterday by a crazily overpowered 6.5, and today (Monday March 26) back at Crissy with powered 6.5 and Carbon Art 52. Nice! Very Happy

And now (Tue) the wind is going. Spent a decent afternoon with very marginal wind at Crissy, 6.5 barely enough I should have rigged 7.3. Wind was gone by five and a few kitefoils got trapped 200 yards from Anita. Took them a loooooong time to make it to shore.

Back to MTB for a few days!
