I have a Chinook base that I want to disassemble so I can fit a Mistral stud to it for use in my Superlight. The Chinook has an offset stud that goes into the board so the bolt that holds the tendon is dead center and easily accessible. The bolt will not budge. I put a strap wrench around the tendon and tried to break the bolt loose. No Bueno. Broke the strap wrench. I know that it is probably locked with some super thread lock. Probably should have purchased the entire base already assembled. Anyone have any tricks or methods for disassembly of a mast base without ruining the components. |

you need to heat up the bolt so the locktite will soften and then you should be able to loosen it. |

This is not the best idea I ever had. Turns out I have a cup and some other misc. base parts. Just going to buy the parts needed for a new base. |
