West System 105 epoxy and its 205 and 206 series hardeners are a 5 to 1 ratio product. I have to wonder whether the Resin Research epoxies offering a different ratio mix are offering the same overall properties. |

For the repair in question :
1. Try to determine if any water I was taken in.
2. Such a minor repair
3. One of many products will do.
4. The writting on the box is what they company puts there. _________________ K4 fins

It's very easy to mess up a 5:1 in small batches since higher ratio epoxies are more critical of exact proportions.
With a small scale I can easily mix up a 1/2oz batch to do a single patch.
I live a short drive from Fiberglass Supply, it's all they recommend for board building or repair and they sell West as well. |

West System have a plunger system that mixes it for you. True its a larger portion .
I use Fiberglass Supply, and a host of other suppliers .
You should start your own thread to promote what you like . And educate us morons who are in the dark ages. _________________ K4 fins

Really, it's all about volumes. I use marked mixing cups to measure volumes, and it makes things super simple, especially when using very limited amounts. Also, it is always better to have too much material when doing a repair. When you are talking about an extra ounce of epoxy in the mix, it's no big deal. |

again, eva does NOT recommend applying a pump to vent holes, in either direction.
more importantly, if one gets catapulted frequently, one may be better served by a DIFFERENT technique. one that i get far too much push back by lazy sailors that continuously have early planing challenges and/or catapults:
hook in AFTER the front foot is in its foot strap. catapulting problems go away quite quickly.
another possible solution: be sure to have the right amount of down haul. _________________ www.aerotechsails.com

Looks like you have a new problem, even if it's an earlier story from the past. In the latest photo, I can see a bit of the hint of the blow that your board took. As long as you are diligent, you can stay ahead of the damage being done. |
