I know he claims it but I would love to see the maker of that sail showing off the performance in 40kt wind. Get real.

I know I'd just take a beating in those conditions on a 6.5 (or even a 3.7),
................but, still willing to try out the 5.8 (though probably in lighter
conditions 1st so as not to kill myself until it's proven), if he'll ship me a
sail to demo. When that used unit (retail $1499) drops from $499 to
$299, I might be willing risk the cash for the experiment.

That day in Hatteras was around 23-24 knots not 15. I'm not a sail maker but can't you guys just whip round some cash to buy say the MW 5.9.

$499 obo, plus I throw in a pump and extra air bladders. If you can pick it up in Miami, will give you a super deal;)

Why would I even want to be on 5.8 in 40 knots when I could be on a 2.9?

The conditions shown in the video might be at most high teens, around force 5, there are just a few white caps forming. Those are 7.0-7.8 conditions for a capable slalom racer ...
23-24 is Force 6: Large waves begin to form, the white foam crests are more extensive everywhere; probably some spray

Having sailed Hatteras many times, the launch looks like Avon with a N or NNE wind (slightly side off shore). Usually pretty flat near shore with building chop further out. Since the water is shallow, swells stay small. I would guess the wind was at least 20 knots, likely a 6.0 or 5.2 sail for me from the way it looks.

I can't really tell because sail has big range, 25kt comes supper easy. Others had 5 and 4 range sails. Our summer just started. We will be sailing all around north east. This weekend looks windy, we will be at our usual spot, Seaside park NJ, launching spot - island beach marina. Everyone is welcome to witness and try wingsail. Now you don't have to do guesswork. We completely stand behind our claims. Wingsail never overpowers in working range 14-42kt. I hope that all my critics will become my frieds , looking forward to it.
