Hey, did anyone attempt to kite or windsurf between Maryhill and Rufus yesterday? Just curious what it was like with the heavy current plus strong wind, and an anecdote (you were there and tried) would be appreciated. Thanks.

here's the skinny:
must be averaging 30+ with gusts over 40 to develop swell in the Wall corridor.
Rufus to the dam - no swell.

The flow is down 10% (500k - 450k) from when this report was written.

twenty seven eight-by-ten colour glossy photographs with circles
And arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each
One was to be used as evidence against us. Took pictures of the approach,
The getaway, the northwest corner the southwest corner and that's not to
Mention the aerial photography.

Thanks for the eyewitness kite report. Apparently no windsurfers attempted it; windsurfing may be "on life support" in the Gorge! I am sure the strong current is less of a problem for kiters than it is for windsurfers (as long as the kite stays airborn). Good to know the current is waning a little bit.

What is this new fenced area at Rufus for? To separate fishermen from wind/swell junkies and reduce hazards for both? Thanks.

Biff,
This has been the best May I have ever had in the Gorge. No life support whatsoever. Just have to be at the right location.

I agree. Best May ever
Hatchery can handle the current real well. No problems whatsoever, swell has been epic

However, the number of windsurfers has been obviously meager (compared to years past) at every beach this May. Therefore, "windsurfing is on life-support". I remember, not so many Mays ago, several (perhaps boneheaded) windsurfers would have gone to Rufus to at least TRY windsurfing in the strong current. Kiters now rule Rufus.

I agree best May ever. I sailed more days this year in may than the last 10 years! Maybe Biff is on life support??

Don't jinx it Biff. The more open water the better.

Only kiters go to Rufus. The Wall is a million times better, due in small part to the fact that kiters can’t launch there.
