Yes, it is such a sad way to go ... careful out there .. windsurf is very safe but the Ocean is quite unforgiving ....

FWIW, from 2nd hand accounts and forum posts, sounds like the death at Alameda could have been caused by a medical emergency as opposed to a kite accident.

Also, a windsurfer drowned at Shoreline Lake on Saturday. I received this news in an email this morning:

There was a beginner windsurfer drowning accident at Shoreline Park yesterday around 4pm. Mid 40 male, found unconscious in the water near his rental windsurfing gears. People tried CPR on boat. Minutes later, police and ambulance arrived. Continued CPR on lake shore for 10-20 minuets, then got carried away.

Hope he survived and fully recovered.
Life’s short, have fun and Please look out for each other on the water.

And yesterday at Crissy "A struggling kite surfer was rescued from the waters of Crissy Field Sunday evening. Officials say that the man was pulled from the waters by a Coast Guard rescue boat at 5:51 p.m. Sunday after going down about 100 feet from shore. Paramedics managed to revive him, and he was rushed to an area hospital."

I heard he is still on life support, his car is still at Crissy. He is a nice guy we chatted a few times ...

in Lake Champlain local fellow was rescued by another windsurfer yesterday
recently i got separated from my board and spent two(2) hours swimming in cold water until rescued by a zodiac...
these are lessons to show us to be a little more careful ...
no point in pushing the envelope ...
