If a carbon boom, you might consider skipping the regripping itself. Scrape off all foam and as much contact cement as reasonably possible. Do not sand clean if at all. You should be left with somewhat textured carbon tubes that offer terrific grip. I surprised myself with this once and never replaced the foam.

I've wondered about truck bed liner for this purpose.

Why add unnecessary weight? I’ve used some “bare” tubes on an early-2000s Fiberspar after the grip essentially began to peel off in 2010 or so. The grip factor is perfectly fine and I never get a blister using this boom but do on foam-covered tubes. In fact, Fiberspar was about to go “gripless” when introducing its first carbon boom but realized branding would be very difficult, as would acceptance from a portion of the market. Nevin mentioned this when asking me if I liked going bare-tubes. He preferred it also.
