I don't know if an 8 would be enough of an increase over my 7.5 in the same conditions? Wish they made a 8.5 or the 9 that ran on a 490 mast. |

Maui Sails used to be hard top masts
went to CC/constant curve around the time Barry left
Ezzy are CC
HSM/Hot Sails Maui are soft/flex top masts
careful how you mix n match sails n masts ...
not sure how extender/extendo affects curve as well
and moves boom re-enforced area up ...
rig before you buy ??
and as you said ... from 7.5 next sail up s/b around 9-9.5

Looks like 8.5 and 9.5 Ezzy Cheetah and Lion rig on 490. Can or no cam? |

I sail the 8.0 cheetah and has held up well over 200hours use so far, estimate it should go 400-500 hours if continue to care for it as have (derig, dry, store in climate controlled dark). I would gladly use a 9.5 on 490 but such a rig is going to be heavy and for me the 8.0 works out pretty well and provides better multi use vs a 9.5. |

I may be going off on a tangent here but I noticed while looking at the Sailworks website that there were no 2018 NX sails listed & all the Retro sails larger than 6.5 had to be ordered. I noticed the same thing from the Naish distributer on the larger sails. The word from Naish was that they were only sending 7+ meter sails to dealers if there were pre-ordered because of the demand for foiling has impacted the demand for larger sails. Could larger sails end up being hard to get?

rtz, Ezzy Lion can be sailed with or without cams. I sold my Lion for a Cheetah. The wider luff sleeve on the lion makes it more work to waterstart and uphaul. FWIW, I weigh 150 and used a 9.0 Sailworks Retro for one season. I found it to be too much work. I was able to use that sail in winds of 12 - 20 mph. I would not feel lit up until winds were near 20.
Have you seen James Douglass' windsurfing calculator? I found it very helpful.

See. That is the part that concerns me. I'm chasing wind in all conditions. How about those days it's blowing 1mph? 2mph? 3mph? 5 or less? Under 10?
I consider 15-20 decent or "good enough". In the 20's is a windy day. 30's is really cranking.
And you weighing 50lbs less then me and only feeling lit up on a 9m in 20mph winds.
In the kite world they made "light wind" specific kites. Any sails like that?
I may have to stay on the pavement for less rolling resistance.
