Does anyone have any feedback on the T8 harness? It looks like the hard shell MAY dramatically reduce lower back strain, but may not. Seeking feedback for my old back. |

I tried ON the T8, ION, Mystic, Ride Engine, NP all hard back. I bought a Mystic Legend , which is made from material that doesnt absorb water. It stays light. Its not a hard back. My gut is this will be a phase to create buyers where its not needed. ( EDIT PHASE meaning the hard back)
Some of the above have carbon backs, other hard have some space age materials. Carbon being way overkill on concept and price. Some of these dont come priced with a bar.
I have suspicions that none provide any special back support, and some extend far up the back, where support would only be needed if you should be in Traction. Keeping the back stiff, doesnt sound the proper thing to do, some support yes.
The largest difference I found on any of these is the clasp for the bar, release , DaKine is the crudest , one has a formed lightweight bar instead of alloy.
Try on as many as possible, walk around, and hang from some lines .

Go to Big Winds and try one on. They have a boom setup with harness lines that allow you to test the harness. It will give you a pretty good idea of what it will feel like when sailing. |

If you have lower back issues wearing a waist harness, the stiff backs may work out well for you. The Ride Engine got me back to a waist harness from my seat harness. I have always preferred a waist for free-riding, but after an hour my back was getting too sore.
Not anymore.....

Cures back pain ,wow.
Ride Engine used to be its own company, uncertain of the arrangement but are now with Slingshot, the quality 2018 VS older version are improved.
The hard back harness , may spread the load better, FWIW DaKIne have kite harness that work nicely also, you do have swap out the kite bar for a windsurf one, where Ride can be fitted with either. _________________ K4 fins
