Saturday night I went to see Will Durst who told this story about Tillerson referring to Trump as a fucking moron. It was the first meeting of the nuclear brain trust under Trump. They explained that we had 4,000 nuclear missiles, enough to destroy the world 16 times over. Trump asked if that was the most we had ever had. The experts said no, we once had 30,000. But these are more effective, etc. Trump said he wanted to be the President with the most nuclear weapons, and we should increase the number to 40,000. When Trump left, Tillerson described him as a fucking moron.

Now, you can’t believe everything you hear, or what you read on the internet. But the story checks out. Now there are many, many ways that Tillerson was right—on this issue. With some level of fiscal constraints, those with knowledge of military strength—including Dick Cheney—have argued for more strategic ways to express military strength. But moron? No doubt.
