|
|
Recently purchased Exocet 11.5 wave longboard to compliment my Kona One. Just like to cruise Fl Indian River, Banana River, Gulf of Mexico- no serious waves, just ride the swells. I'm 190lbs, 6ft, intermediate, sailing since 1983 both longboards and shortboards. Sails I use with the waveboard are Aerotech 6.5, 7.2, 8.0. Stock single fin is 32cm us base, would like to go bigger. Jingebritson, lost your contact info and would like your input as well as any one else familiar with this board. Thanks in advance. BTW, followed the forum for years but 1st post. |

In US Base fins, I think you will find length determined by the box strength, that box doesn’t support long fins. Many offer a SUP fin , that may work nicely also variations of weed fin, look at the fin area as well as length.
MUF BPF
The fin company’s wont offer one similar to powerbox . An upgrade in even the same size would help _________________ K4 fins

I normally sail as single fin but does have side bite option. Hydrotech has a 39cm, too big? |

Same foot print as Kona One but 170 liters. No repair needed, I have the side fins , but pretty much straight line sailing, not any serious "slashing" of waves. I'm 75yo and I dig riding the river swells hooked in and in the straps, smelling the roses (seaweed!?). Willing to try sidefins but any benefit? |

39 fin , I feel you will repair.
Using the side fins as well you increase the total fin area. So the center fin doesnt need to be as long as 36.
Center fin, 28m then sides 10–12, WAG.
The benefits are many, one minus, it will plane later, and top speed will be less.
If either of those matter single and order they E or S Glass , now, carbon and marine epoxy , a new fin box. _________________ K4 fins

i have sailed this board in many ways.
the 32 cm fin i prefer, although not flawless, is near perfect for most app's of this board. even works okay with sails up to 9.0
progressive sports continues to NOT have the specific hydrotech fin that is a copy of the original fin that came with the first 2 models of the 11.5, but this is the closest i can show

larger fins may be too much for some of the later model hulls, dunno why. that remains a mystery, but is somewhat moot, because long boards typically do not respond well to larger fins. AND, for my type of sailing do not respond well to multi-fins either. _________________ www.aerotechsails.com

Thanks for the input U2 and John! Have not had any issues with the stock fin even with my 8.0- just keep hearing the "you need a bigger fin" mantra. Remembering that my old Ultracat and Equipe had relatiively small us fins and sailed great! |

Johns opinion I would regard highly. I dont like large fins in a USBox.
I still think a better fin may be the best option. Bigger fin cause someone tells you.. but it ain’t broke ..
John has never liked multi fins in any form, if my memory is correct. Fair enough,I have mates who dont either.
My windsup was a BIC ACE Tek, hardly cutting edge, company I worked for sold them , big discount. Loads of fun, tri fin option, which I used mostly. On a board like this IMO small sides do have some effect, but hardly a plus or minus, mostly feel. Replaced with a Sea Lion , which is a twin, compared to even a Quatro w/sup the Lion sails more like a windsurf board.
Were the Exocet mine I would rig a trio of K4s. I do not use large sails. _________________ K4 fins

I do use tri fin set up on my 12'6" Starboard windsup with a 5.8 Aerotech Zenith, lot of litewind fun and good glide. Mite have to try the 28cm with the side fins for the halibut! |
