|
|
I have been working on getting my home made hydrofoil to work with my windsurfers. I have an old ProTec and a Roberts, both deep Tuttle boxes and wide boards.
When I am using my big 7.5 or 8.5 sails, I always have to reach very far forward to the boom and far back with my feet to put my weight back to get up on the foil. This results in a very strenuous stance resembling the "bow and arrow" stance used in jibing. Do I just have to move my wing farther forward, or do I have to move the sail's mast base back? I have the sail's mast set as far back in the track as it will go. I have experience with replacing mast tracks, so I can do that.

Without specifics, probably both.
The front wing near centered between the straps and the mast base back enough to be able to sheet out effectively. |

i have the same issue...
the stance is a bit unsustainable.
Slingshot says on their website that the optimal distance from the from the front screw of a tuttle box foil to the mast foot is 42 inches
i had been about 46 inches, and got it back to 45. I was using a double-bolt universal, and just ordered a single bolt, which should let me get back another 1.5 in or so.
The board I am using is an old starboard go, and the track is just a bit forward...
I am also using the slingshot aluminum foil, but i would guess that the 42in is probably a pretty good starting point for most of the foils by the big manufacturers. If you are using a custom foil, it's hard to know... |

If you're going to carve into the board then move the fin box forward 2-3". |
