I have mostly been rigging my boom where i rig it for non-foil sailing.

Is that what most people are doing?

I was thinking that a higher boom - maybe a lot higher - might be better. I'll try it next time I get out, but thought I'd ask here.

Depends what your normal boom height happens to be.
Lower boom allows sheeting in and out without affecting rig angle changes, while higher booms can increase rig to windward angle as you sheet in.

Having foiled for a year, I've raised the boom about 3 inches higher and have gone from a 22 inch harness line to 26..I seem to foil more comfortably with this setup.

If your point of reference is wave sailing or freeride, boom hight should be same or highter in the beginning. Comparing to formula, it's lower. Also, depends if you riding swell on foil or going upwind/downwind. Lower for more control, higher for more power, etc.

I'm perhaps 1-1.5" lower than on a ~100L board using the same sail size. I prefer minimal MBP on the foil, makes ride height easier to control with the feet. My mast base is fully rearward.
