Oh yes! It took about 3 months to timidly get back, one year plus to feel about 80%, and because of the drugs I have now to take and their side effects (and a couple more years of aging) I never really went back to the the same physical condition I had before the event.
But I am sailing, and quite a lot! Count me among the lucky ones! |

| I good to know that I'm not the only one to run into a big plastic bag. Opened up and full of water that has nowhere to go, you stop instantly. But probably one of my biggest crashes was hitting a sea turtle full tilt at Speckelsville on Maui. It literally destroyed the finbox on my board and snapped off the G10 fin tab, yet luckily I came away only roughed up a bit and relatively unscathed. The turtle? It vanished without a sign with no blood in the water. Based on impact, I have question the idea that their shells are soft, but maybe Maui turtles are stouter than most. |

| Moving both hands to the front of the boom, pulling back hard while stomping on the tail, all to avoid tee-boning a Grey whale surfacing right in front of me. It was either that or landing on a heavily barnacle covered back, it worked. |

I hope your doctors are among the better informed ones who advocate strenuous exercise -- especially HIIT and Superslow weight training -- for heart attack recovery. If not, do your own literature research and convince yourself and them.
One of our locals was air-lifted off a ski resort into an emergency quad bypass. He still sails in every knot of wind the Gorge can throw at him, despite having a doctor who gives him boatloads of what the literature proves is horrible advice. The bypass was about 20 years ago, when he was 58. |

Wow! These all make my harness line snapping seem like nothing. Indeed, I think the awards for shortest stopping distance go to those of you who struck immoveable objects (like barges), yikes.
Going to try a few of the other, non-injury-surety braking methods. I have tended to aggressively turn upwind to brake ... I may try a wheelie-plow sometime. |

I bought a new 90 liter board and installed the fin myself. Problem - the screw was European and the insert was American, or vica versa. Guess I shredded the screw.
In any event, about 2,000 yards off the beach, the fin fell out of the board after getting air over a wave. Instant wipe out. |

I hit a just submerged plastic re cycle crate , it had to be green like the water.
Dislodged a fin some , creased the board bottom.
