Pardon my uninformed question, but are windsurfing hydrofoils and Kiteboard hydrofoils interchangeable assuming you use a power plate?
Winds seem to be lower than years past so I'm considering foiling as a way to get lots more time on the water. |

Yes and no, depending on exact specific case of each.
As a general rule, with plenty of exceptions, kitefoils locate their front wings closer to the mast than windfoils, about 4", which can or cannot be compensated by PP or adding another box or two. |

Do yourself a favor and buy specific windsurfing foils and foil boards. The learning can be a bit tough on the body, so you being an older gentleman, you will benefit from the easier performance of the specific gear.
Talking from experience here.....

Hard to argue the logic of foil board and foil from the same company, unless budget is a consideration.
Having a formula or 75cm+ board can alleviate that part, but new foils run over 800 while used can be had for about half that.
Choice can be a dilema, because logic tells you a big front wing is best for light winds, while experience can show a medium low drag foil might foil up nearly as early while providing crossover performance to lightwind windsurfing.
Research is in your future. |

My current plans are to use my Pro-Tech 276 All-Terrain C.A.T. 140 liter board and probably get a used Pryde or Anderssen foil for it, but I wanted to cover my bases just in case Kite foils were interchangeable. |

Windsurf foils are designed to be placed at a rather specific distance from the mast track.....there is some wiggle room here, but not a lot. Foot strap positions are different on a foil board to reflect the above....boards are generally shorter and wider, and the rocker on the nose is designed to be forgiving in the event of a pitch forward. And this will happen....and it is not pretty.....The foil board skips off of the water, a windsurf board can nose dive in and that hurts....
Just saying....
be careful out there.
Sometimes cheaper is not the best path forward.

Kite/SUP/Surf foils have shorter fuselages then windsurf foils as dlee pointed out. Kite foils will have smaller wing area then windsurf foils. SUP/Surf foils will have the biggest wings.
You should pretty much stick with a windsurf foil for windsurfing as it would require too much effort & skill to use a kite foil for windsurfing.
If you go the older board route try to get a shorter mast to learn on as the falls will be much less forgiving.

Slingshot is completely interchangeable between Kiting and Windfoiling. I've seen kiters on the H2 wing set up (which is what used to be a part of the F1 windfoil package.
The H4 wing is also working with both Windfoil and Kite foils.
I'm on the giant 84 Infinity wing for windfoiling, I think it works for kiting but don't know.
Slingshot is definitely a pretty flexible solution between kites and windfoiling.

Nope. Buy a windfoil (if you need one!).
