Hello

I hope things are healing with the outer Cape Surf / Windsurf crew.

Just a follow up on the planned NNE session a week ago Friday at Pleasant Bay –

Although it looked shaky, Mr. Flaherty & I pretty much tore it up on 5.0s. Mr. F was on a nice Real Wind 80L and I got my ancient Haut out after a string of decent days on Bruce and Gerda’s hand-me-down Sailboard.

People always ask me why I ride that old piece of sh!t. Quite simply, like Robert August says, it’s “what I ride”.

Half way through, one of my rear straps pulled out. Despite the stiff wind, I knew I was in trouble when the smell of toxic water that’s been festering inside old soaked polyurethane foam became evident.

I thought of cutting things short to minimize damage, but it was just too good. Also, it was nice to be sharing the day with someone who was there for the first time.

The old Chinook insert is definitely loose, if not broken, inside the board. Thinking, thinking what to do, my great idea to go unsymmetrical spurred me on to glass it over and forget about it for now. I’m do gonna my best to fix it over the winter.

Don’t laugh, the phone camera really distorts the shape. It’s skinny, but not that skinny!

That ugly white cr@p is Soft Sand embedded in West “special clear” epoxy. Last year, I used a very fine grain. This year, I burned it off to try some larger stuff. The bump like old Redek and the rubber material keep your feet stuck to the board. Good looks went out the window long ago.

Friday’s window to sail some leftover Michael came and went. It wasn’t that great around here anyway.

Monday afternoon at Kalmus, Tuesday morning and afternoon at Skaket are on my radar!
