I'm blessed to sail mostly 5.5/5.2 on my local lake. It blows most days late spring to early fall. I also have been out foiling about 9 times. The wind is lite early building afternoon. I'm finding that the foil is flying or a 5.2 while the guys are waiting for wind. Lots of boards now come with a foil box included to really extend your days on the water. Now in the fall we get 8 to 12 with gusts that might push 20. While most of the locals have packed it in until spring, I'm having lots of fun on the 5.2 and foil. Right now i have a dedicated foil and board. I'm hoping to get good enough on the foil next year to go to a cross over wind/foil board and simplify my gear. 3 sails 5.8 5.0 4.7... 110 ish wind foil board and a 90 ish high wind board. That covers everything I do at home and I might need a 4.2 when I travel. I will always be a windsurfer but foiling in lite wind is the way to go..

I hope the wind picks up so I can windsurf. Or maybe I could just kite...

"I hope the wind drops".... when your ass is planted in the water and you can't take off on your kite. The reality of kitesurfing.

My dad does not want to sit around on the lake all day on a boat watching me kite and having to bring me back to the beach when there isn't enough wind to launch. Other then that i may have been a kitesurfer. On a windsurfer you can get back to the beach unassisted.

If a kite flies to 75% zenith, it's easy to get up and going. That's around steady 6 mph for foil kites.

So the wind finally dropped enough Laughing to go foiling yesterday after 4.
I was on a 4.2 m Ezzy Elite and it was averaging around 18-20 mph. We hit the water about 4 pm till sunset. I find you basically can be on a full meter smaller sail size when on a foil.
