Hi Gang,

It took almost a year to get Coast Guard permission and find the perfect boat, tide and wind and fly in an install crew but we finally got the Berkeley Reef Nav. Aid sensor installed. Below are images of this Nav. Aid taken by the Cal Sailing Club: https://cal-sailing.org

This purpose of this sensor is to help the Coasties in search and rescue as well as giving yacht, ship and ferry traffic a better feeling for the wind between Point Blunt and the eastern edge of the Olympic Circle.

For windsurfers and kiters it gives you a much better feeling of the winds out in the open waters between Brook's Island and the Berkeley Pier and well as the Albany Bulb area.

Another big use is in monitoring the wind curve that determines whether it will be a better day towards Berkeley or towards Pt. Isabel.

A big shout out for Stuart Hill who did the Weatherflow install of this tricky to approach Nav. Aid.

Here is the link to the wind map of the area:

Here here! Great job guys! It looks like Bodega is back on line as well. Now for that pesky Waddell sensor.

Here is story about the photo and Nellie.

And a quote from a crew member that really has you wondering about boat operators who don't understand the implication of the name Berkeley Reef.

This article also gives you some insight as to why this was a tricky sensor install for Stuart

Thanks Mike and iwindsurf for the new Berkeley Reef sensor! Already using it and much appreciating it.

At one point, there was some consideration of a sensor on Olympic Circle pole D also. Any news there?

Thanks and Best Regards!
Eric
