360 degree camera then edited. I've been considering one since you can never quite get the shot right with a regular action cam. I'm waiting for prices to come down though. |

What problems are you having with regular action cams? The only problem we have is for the person doing the filming to focus on the subject and avoiding the temptation to go grab his own swell? |

Honestly between clew view and mast mount, you should be able to have enough info to focus on what you are doing well as well as outline issues.
Post your mast mount vids and we'll go from there. |

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
A review of the Soloshot3 from a kiteboarder's opinion.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6enOqu4czs8
I have a lead on a used Soloshot3 for $650 CAD. For what it is this is a fair price. However, after watching several reviews and footage I'm not sure the technology is there yet. For the price (especially the new price) I was expecting better quality video. Video looks washed out and the potential for camera shake when zoomed due to wind in is a deal breaker. Perhaps other robotic camera/mounts are better. |

A 1500mm equivalent lens requires some serious stability to shoot. Toss it on a tripod in some wind and it'll be all over the place. Just kind of a fact of life.
I'd only expect good footage within 300m at most, not the quoted distance of 2000m. |

as this discussion peaked my interest, i decided to try some experiment(s)
today i was windskiing on the local river
decided to try a third person filming ...
left the Pictel camera on a winter brush and on the snow
obviously the wind was strong UNTIL i decided to put some on film %^&*(
in any case, i feel it is interesting, but would require some robot zooming for what OP asked about
in water, perhaps the camera could rest on a buoy with tight string (less wobble)
this video is completely unedited with NO musaque

the simpler solutions and some of the costly ones have already bin discussed
always discuss my sessions too- which was how i actually started my blog
