Even with a more extensive border wall, if we don't get serious with American companies and individuals that hire illegal immigrants, the number of illegals will continue to swell indefinitely into the future. History over time readily proves my point.

As far as assuming that all illegal immigrants currently in the US will receive a blanket approval for work permits, and an ultimate path to citizenship, I think that we need to be strict in the conditions and rules that will open that door. Moreover, I believe that a notable number of applicants could fail the test and find themselves being sent back to their home country. No doubt, I don't think we want to open our arms to folks with serious criminal records. Also, I think that folks without a responsible work history should be denied the chance to stay unless they are being cared for and supported by responsible family members.

Lastly, the idea that Democrats are for open borders and blanket amnesty is a false view. The sooner that fallacy is dumped, the closer we will be to finding a meaningful bi-partisan outcome to our illegal immigration problem.

For a bit, you sounded like a Trump supporter. The Democrats would almost unanimously approve of amnesty for the illegals. Trump offered to extend DACA in return for the wall. Why wouldn't they accept that?

Bard—2 reasons. First, Trump can’t be negotiated with. He backs out of deals—with both parties and with contractors. So nobody (except a few idiots on iwindsurf) trusts him. (He doesn’t work hard enough to understand how to make a political deal, or to actually make one. He had virtually nothing to do with the substance of the tax cut.) Second, extension of DACA isn’t enough to bring Democrats on board.

You can blame the Freedom caucus. They killed a bi-partisan deal that had made it through the Senate, and had a majority in the house—but the speaker refused to take it up. One thing I have found in politics is there is an optimum time to make a deal. If you miss it, you get less the next time.

No, swchandler sounds like a typical Democrat, perfectly reasonable. It is very rare these days to hear something reasonable from a Republican.

Why wouldn't Democrats accept the Wall for DACA? All in all it's fine to protect the border with Mexico, just don't waste billions of dollars on something that the president needs because Ann Coulter chastised him, and spend it instead on like education.

Bard, Donald Trump made every attempt to kill DACA, so why would anyone accept a temporary reinstatement of what he tried so hard to end. The message I get is that Trump isn't even close to seriously working for responsible immigration reform. It's got to be done, but he doesn't have the vision and leadership to pull it off. He's way too busy trying to cater to his minority of hateful core supporters.

Given all the desire that Donald Trump has for adulation and respect, you would think that he could see the path to bring folks together and be a true leader on so many fronts. Seems all that his fire and fervor is for tearing things down both domestically and internationally with nothing serious to offer afterwards. There's little success in his pitiful leadership to date, especially being exceedingly untrustworthy and lying all the time.

A federal election will be rerun because of fraud.

It's probably the first such do-over in American history.

FRAUD!

Prior to the board’s decision, Republican Mark Harris, the declared winner in the race who had been fighting for his election to be certified... Harris was initially declared the winner by 905 votes over Democrat Dan McCready, but the race was never certified, as evidence began to surface of ballot fraud by employees of the Harris campaign...

Republicans initially objected that Democrats were trying to “steal” the election with claims of fraud, but over the last several months evidence accumulated that a Harris consultant had sent workers to collect absentee ballots and destroy them or fill them in for the Republican...

The campaign staffer, Leslie McCrae Dowless Jr., a local political operative, has been convicted of fraud and perjury unrelated to politics. And this is not the first time that races Dowless has been involved with have had curious results. In 2016, a candidate who hired Dowless won 221 of the 226 absentee ballots cast despite finishing third overall in the primary. In 2014, Dowless worked for a candidate who was narrowly elected sheriff amid allegations of absentee ballot misconduct.

furthur this minister Harris was warned by his son not to hire the consultant because of ethical past issues. The son testified to this and he told his father several times.

This minister should be sent to a hot place where he and hypocritical right wingers belong.

with the new revelation of Republicans stealing an election in NC we see that the biggest threat to elections voting is by Republicans in all these years and electronic and other threats still have not been investigated. Still all voting machines are made by repubicans and partisan republicans. And they do not allow inspection of the firmware used on election day.

Quote:
To be clear, I’m not just talking about prosecutions. I track any specific, credible allegation that someone may have pretended to be someone else at the polls, in any way that an ID law could fix.

So far, I’ve found about 31 different incidents (some of which involve multiple ballots) since 2000, anywhere in the country. If you want to check my work, you can read a comprehensive list of the incidents below.

To put this in perspective, the 31 incidents below come in the context of general, primary, special, and municipal elections from 2000 through 2014. In general and primary elections alone, more than 1 billion ballots were cast in that period.

Some of these 31 incidents have been thoroughly investigated (including some prosecutions). But many have not. Based on how other claims have turned out, I’d bet that some of the 31 will end up debunked: a problem with matching people from one big computer list to another, or a data entry error, or confusion between two different people with the same name, or someone signing in on the wrong line of a pollbook.

here is what I propose the government integrate into a ID card that is available at every post office to get for free. and this card could be used for getting a job or voting. Not mandatory but with it you can not be denied the right to vote or a job. With it getting a job an employer cannot be arrested for hiring a person that is not eligible to have a job. Obviously would also have a persons picture on it, with the fingerprint detection and the chip on the card like credit cards for security.

again these are free and can only be picked up and applied for at post offices and are free. If lost a nominal fee is applied and a free one every 4 years.

ross a right wing liar...

again trying to suppress data, he does not get to make the laws that is Congress.

Ocasio-Cortez and House Democrats roast Wilbur Ross over census citizenship question

Quote:
WASHINGTON — Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross was roasted before a House of Representatives committee Wednesday in a hearing that lasted more than six hours. It was not a roast of the comedic variety, however, with Ross repeatedly scorched by Democrats as he struggled to explain why he sought the inclusion of a citizenship question on the 2020 census.

Ross was on the ropes for much of his testimony before the House Oversight Committee, but the knockout blow did not come until the seventh hour of the hearing, when Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., finally had the chance to interrogate Ross, who is 52 years her senior. Ocasio-Cortez, who has been in Congress a little more than two months, effectively summarized the Democrats’ central argument against Ross: that in putting the question on the census, Ross did not consult with U.S. Census Bureau experts but instead took advice from voter-suppression specialists aligned with President Trump.

“It’s all there in black and white,” Ocasio-Cortez said of a July 2017 email to Ross from Kris Kobach, the then Kansas secretary of state who has made a career of voter suppression. The email said that adding a citizenship question was “essential,” presumably so that congressional apportionment would prove more favorable to Republicans.
