Im about ready to buy a Xantos 290 because it seems like a similar board to the techno and I can get it for a much better deal...$500

the xantos is a good board. you will do fine on that. mainly its getting something that works pretty well, and the rest is a great attitude, and getting that time on the water practice.

Dennis,
Get the 290, then take the money you saved and buy a good mast and/or boom. You spent so much time asking about your board that you forgot about the fact that it needs a motor. Get a good 460cm mast, with an extension it should handle sails from 5.0 to 7.0 and slightly bigger.

If you live in San Diego, weigh more than
150 Lbs and want to sail locally ,minimum requirements are;board over 72cm wide and less than 20 Lbs,sail no less than 8.5.The 290 will not plane in our LIGHT wind. The Techno is to heavy and narrow.People from other areas seldom have any idea what it takes to sail here.A formula board is a logical choice. But remember the weight issue as this will be important.Take a look at the lineup on a weekend by the Hilton or Bahia Hotels.

Thanks Kellygeygan

I have a feeling that those boards werent going to cut it in light wind conditions. As a matter of fact Im heading out to San Diego this coming week and Im going to try out some boards there since its still cold here in NJ. Ill keep my eyes open for what people are doing out there.

I second the motion. With this price, get a good rig to go with...

Good luck
