in florida, there are months in which my 9.0, 7.2 freespeeds get lots of uses. other months, 7.5 and 6.2 phantoms pull their weight.
rarely, do 5.7 and smaller get lots of uses. but when they do, i am prepared to get the most of out of those days because i have spent TOW with big stuff. to those that claim one needs to sell their large gear and go to class to become better sailors, i say, bull. lots of people don't have 5.7 and better winds available often. _________________ www.aerotechsails.com

I had a quick go on a Viper 91 with a 5.7 not a lot of wind - ridiculously easy to sail, planed remarkably early and went quite well - wish I could have learnt on something like that.
Honestly, if you want to improve you should sell the 4.5 MauiSails Global, the 4.7 Chinook PowerGlide, 7.5 MauiSails Scream and definitely the 9.0 AeroTech FreeSpeed - sell the fins apart from what came with the board and spend the money on a course with a good instructor - I absolutely promise you, you will get where you want to go so much, much, much, much, much quicker.
after that, you will actually know what kit you need. _________________ www.aerotechsails.com

So, basically you are saying that beginners should get themselves a 9.0 - that really is top quality advice..... jeez. |

Depending on where they live it's excellent advice.
Honestly if a person thinks a beginner board and 5.7 planes just fine in "light wind" they really have no idea what light wind actually is.
In my first year of windsurfing my 8.5 was by far my most used sail. |

well maybe, or maybe not. If people spent less time with a 9.0 they might get some idea of how to get a board to plane in anything less than a gale. |

advice given on www. means advice that has to apply to less than perfect parts of the world. attacking was i? so sorry.
saying offhand that one has to learn to plane on something less "huge" in winds less than a gale are we? i have been on 7.5's and 6.8's doing for years without most people in the world being aware of that. especially if i am where i want to be: in the surf playing on waves. sometimes sailing cross of 5-12 with a long board.
