For those that have access to articles in the Washington Post, there recently was an excellent Opinions Essay by Robert Kagan, 'The Strongmen Strike Back'. It's a bit long, but it is definitely a worthy read.

Not so much as long as we keep the far left out of dominance.

No automobiles (or WSing vans)?

No airplanes?

No hamburgers (I haven't eaten one anyway in at least 20 years, but that's because they're so damned unhealthy)?

Stop having kids because the earth will be environmentally uninhabitable within 12 years?

Statins for everyone (despite the fact that the higher our cholesterol, the longer we live)?

No AC until we're baking, no heat until we're freezing? (Jimmy Carter, under whose dictatorship our government office temps hit 100F in the summer, 45F in the winter. I stopped going to movies and restaurants.)

One million aliens swarming over our borders illegally every year because some uninformed, stupid fools want open borders?

Shut down free speech so only the far left can dictate what news we hear, who gets to speak on campuses full of brainwashed little shits who violently reject open and rational discourse, and what we can or cannot see on our electronic media?

Your title says it all. WE SURE AS HELL DO NOT WANT AUTHORITARIANISM RUNNING OUR DAILY LIVES. Elected officials in a Republic are there to obey and use the constitution for our benefit as they see it, not to ignore it and make up their own guiding principles. Their foremost obligation is the safety of U.S. citizens, not letting other nations or invaders from those nations take over our lives.

Chandler—pretty interesting article. Kagan is a noted neo-conservative—whose party has left him. He is correct that the GOP has become the party of authoritarianism. Many are willing to overlook the crimes of Trump and his mob—because they support his authoritarianism.

Others like Isobars just ignore the thread and post nonsense because reading something by people that don’t share his woeld view—and authoritarian it is—make his blood pressure rise.

Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube. Those are the authoritarians. Big Democrat government programs. Those are authoritarian. Small government conservatives are all about freedom.

Sadly, based on their responses, it's pretty clear that isobars and Bard didn't really read the opinion essay. Maybe they couldn't read the article because they don't subscribe to the Washington Post. Yet, needless to say, they still were quite eager to shoot in the dark and comment about what's on their mind.

Whether Kagan is a conservative or a liberal, it didn't much matter because the thrust of the opinion was based on recognized history, to include a heavy dose of the truth about what is currently going on on an international scale. In my view, it's important to see and recognize what's happening and how history often tends to repeat itself. In reality, it's not a pretty picture.

I doubt that many conservatives read/subscribe to the Post. So the left can just keep preaching to themselves since we won't be subscribing.

They paid back every cent plus a pile of interest. So, no the answer is no. And it seems like you approve of Venezuela style economics , let me ask , are in favor of seizing property too?
