From what I've gathered from the guys who have been windsurfing here since the 1980's; back then their used to be ~150 guys in the windsurf club and around 40 at any given time at the lake sailing.
Believe it or not; back then there were 4 shops around the lake that were selling windsurfing equipment.
Now there are around 20 of us who sail and no local sources. Nearest place is in Dallas. I actually drove there to pick up my board to save on shipping at the time.

OKC to Dallas, 200 mi. Not so far, but not every week.
Here in Colorado we have 1 shop, it remains in business with snow related items.
New Mexico had but 1, when I lived there, in Santa Fe.
A state like Maine which has tons of water, that I’ve found had 1, gone now and none I see. _________________ K4 fins

Think that's bad? Where I live I need to order a ice cream cone on line!!!
I went to Costco to get a washer and drier. They had a great deal but they only came in a 4 pack. Needed a flapper valve for my toilet. Local store didn't have the part. Found it on line for $8.99 Good deal except it was $12.99 shipping handling. It must be pretty heavy and difficult to handle that 4oz part. They even ask if I wanted insurance for a small fee. It wasn't that long ago that you could go into a shop in your local area and walk out with what you need. Even a new board or sail...Just sayin |
