I am looking for some help on rigging my 10 meter sail in light winds. Last year I bought a Pacific 10.0 Vmax for light wind sailing. I would have bought an Aerotech VMG but my wife wouldnt let me spend that kind of money after buying a brand new AHD Freediamond 77. The problem I am having with the sail is in the downhaul tension. The specs call for a 520 cm luff, but at that setting the leech is tight as a drumb and the batten just above the boom protrudes 2 cm past the front of the mast. By the time I get the battens adjusted properly my luff is at 525 cm. This setting makes the sail rotate nicely, however the leech at this point is very floppy- the kind of floppy you would want when over powered. If I loosen up the downhaul to tighten up the leech for lighter winds, out pops the batten and the sail will not rotate. My only option appears to be to outhaul the #@%# out of the sail when I loosen the downhaul. Is this a common problem with all 10 meter RAF sails and what effect on performance will a tight leech and outhaul have on sailing? |

My mistake on the luff setting. The sail rotates properly at 535, not 525. |

Thanks for the tip. I guess 535 is my minimum setting, any less and the sail will not rotate. |
