What's a good small sail setup to have?

So I basically have a 4.5m then a 5.6m. I'm not using my 4.7 and 5.5 Chinook PowerGlides in high winds again. It's like having a sail made from a sheet of plywood and it whips around like a flag.

Seeing as they make 4.5, 4.6, 4.7, 4.8, 4.9 etc. all or some? Which ones? Same for the 5.0 - 5.5m sizes.

What wind? Exactly.
What skill? Exactly.
What board? Exactly.

The wind on Thursday for example. I'm still a beginner on a 240L Viper.

I'd rig a ~7.5 and quit when it dies.

where i live, i do not go in south winds
20 mph is about 7.0, but 25 is more like 6.3 or smaller !!

major drop in wind chart and it is time to go as stated

and not so sure about your boat with those sails ...

Please look at my calculator inside the sail spread section.
Then let me know if you have more questions.

There's also a section about how to know whether the sail is rigged correctly.

Flapping is a means to exhaust/spill/evacuate wind surplus.

FYI that would be on your board. I'd be on a 122L or possibly 95L depending on how steady it was and rigging either a 5.7 or 5.3 again depending.

I sailed in the Dallas area for 27 years and is not that much different than OKC. I got by very well with a 4.0, 4.5, 5.2, 6.0, 6.4 and larger...……. I weight 170 and used the sails on boards between 90L and 105L. This covers winds from 20 to 30+. Winds under 20 and I am on bigger boards and sails.
