You didnt say what kind of sailing you do. Are you racing, waves, bump, beginning? Some sails (race) are more sensitive to carbon content than others. The weight of the mast makes a big difference when uphauling or waterstarting especially in big sails. Performance-wise youll notice the biggest difference in hi-carbon content in the bigger sails. The sail will feel more powerful, stable and lighter. Hi-carbon is MUCH more likely to break though, and are more expensive. If youre satisfied with the performance of the lo-carbon mast, then stay with it. They certainly are more durable.

mast weight is also subject to what the maker uses to stop the mast form taking water on with some high priced makers use sub standard plugs that make their masts seem heavier than the publish when they are wet But if you want a light good quality well plugged mast check out the new naish masts I use one for all my sails from 520- 400 they arethe lightest most respopnsive mast I have used . an whats most important the plugs actually keep the h2o out ( you can find these mast at the I windsurf .com classifieds under components key word npr
