You mention "the lake". Many years ago, a WSing gear rep from OK talked with me for hours on the extensive variety of lakes in OK. I can't readily put my hands on the resulting recordings, but they were enlightening and encouraging enough for me to drive up there from Albuquerque. Months of strong wind from Feb through May, beginning in the southern areas of the Texas panhandle and creeping up through the Great Basin to Nebraska as the basin warmed up with spring and early summer. The general approach was to camp beside a lake and expect a day (dawn 'til dusk) of hard SW wind, a similar day of post-frontal NW wind, followed by a day or two of much-needed rest between the fronts. He said he used mostly 4.2/4.7 sails, with many stronger days.
One lake emphasized clean swell, another was relatively choppy but closer to home (OK City?), etc. He gave me long lists of pros and cons of each lake, and said I could start near Meredith in February and sail my butt off as I moved northeasterly over the next 3-4 months as each lake warmed up (they're shallow and warmed up quickly). Gave it serious thought, but that's also peak season in very windy NM, where I lived, and overlapped with the onset of the Gorge season. I've sailed Meredith, never got to OK.
I assume you have a job (bummer for a windsurfer), but there are many ways around that, as I've published and posted several times. I got in countless long (3 to 8 hours) weekday sessions or even whole weekdays by planning ahead, being loaded up and ready to roll, and driving to any of NM's bigger lakes on the drop of a strong wind forecast ... and our three primary lakes were each 185 miles away. Ya do what ya gotta do, and from your photos and that rep's reports, you have some nice opportunities. |

Canton lake out west of here is built opposite of this one with the dam being to the south. It gets more wind being further out west and supposedly gets 6' tall roller type waves due to the deep end getting pushed to the shallow end.

But is this true?
Best Place to Live in Oklahoma
OK, OK, actually the caption was "15 Best Places to Live in Oklahoma", but it's funnier my way. |

Hefner is awesome.
Wife is from OKC so we try to get back once a year.
Friendly folks and plenty of wind most of the time.
My goal is to spend extended time there especially during May Gray and June Gloom months where I live SB/Ventura area. |
