I bought a long-board, mast, boom, quiver, etc. in NC while on a business trip. The seller is storing them for a few weeks until I can figure out how to transport them back to NY. My company is flying me down every week, so for the price of air-fare or less I could rent something to car-top it, but the car rental companies dont seem to have that option. I could drive my own van & rack round-trip, but I think one 10-hour drive in a week is enough. Anybody have some other ideas? |

Rent a van, or buy some soft racks and straps from the windsurf shop that fit the rental car. Dont forget to tie the front of the board to the front of the car so it wont fly off. Also get a car or wagon with fold-down rear seats so you can put everything except the board, inside. I could get a 460 mast, boom and 2 sails in a Dodge Neon with the front seat reclined and back seat folded down (no passengers though). |

Sometimes with fold down seats you can even get the board inside - depending on length of course. Noticed that this is a long-board, so might have quite a bit hanging out the back. My Phoenix 320 <almost> fits inside our Volvo 850 - so I just pad the board nose and tie down the trunk when not using the racks. Still room for multiple sails, booms, and masts. rick p |

Update: This week when I flew into town, Avis gave me a free upgrade to a van. I canceled my round-trip flights & extended the van an extra week. Because Im renting the van more than a week, they even knocked $6/day off the rate. Im picking the gear up tonight, driving it home tomorrow, & returning the van next week. More driving than I wanted, but everything else fell into place. Thanks for the advice. |

Soft racks will fit in your luggage and are available from Windance at www.windance.com |
