Greetings,
I changed my style because I was more in balance on newer gear with
less back foot pressure. My old gear is ultra tolerant of too much back foot.
But I agree with you in that a good sailor is a good sailor no matter the gear
they are riding.
Plenty of Kooks wobbling around on all kinds of gear , new
or old.

Why "change" your style?
Plenty of kooks wobble around today with new "style" setups. |

I wouldn't advocate changing anything on your present gear.
Things will become apparent on different stuff.
I sail as Far East in the US as possible, Down East, Maine and Hatteras, mostly.
English is my first language. _________________ K4 fins

If you have any problem adapting, just move mast base forward from the center position. Works on all new boards including Skates, 3s, and Magics |

Only every dealer I've met and the majority of posters here.
My present board quiver runs from 1999 to 2014, and I've tested 2018 boards. I mix 'em up most days, from long and narrow to flat-out stubby, always on new sails, without thinking about it or them. I just go windsurfing, and usually adapt subconsciously to whatever I'm on within minutes without analyzing it. If a board is so unique that it won't turn unless I take my back foot out and put it on the forward rail, Idonwannit. Too many wide or narrow boards do just what I want for me to consciously modify my sailing style to adapt to it ... and thus need to look down and see which board I'm on in order to jibe or slash it. The only type of board I flat didn't enjoy was the sawed-off-at-both-ends freestyle boards, simply because they don't enhance my style of sailing. So unless you're a dedicated freestyler, you will probably do just fine on most traditional or stubby shapes. If you can't enjoy most board types, you're either so good you benefit from millimeters or so average that you don't notice inches.
Disregard most of that if your boards have way-forward mast tracks. All of mine have deck boxes as far back as they get on any B&J/wave/freeride boards. I haven't had a forward mast track since the late '80s ... if then. |
