The video I've seen guys just get up on the board and start foot pumping the foil right away then don't change foot position once flying. But there isn't much actually footage of a beginner learning it.
You know I hadn't thought about how easy it would be to "train" using a skateboard. I tried that for regular windsurfing and the results weren't great (not enough deck space to move feet correctly, had to go waaaaaay too fast to flip the sail in any kind of wind).
It seems like gybing these wings will be far easier than a sail. No need to go super fast to make it light enough. Just let it float. Not sure how I feel about that honestly. |

I think your $6000 estimate is off by at least $3000, especially for average size person who will need no larger than a 5.5 rig.

in my post I allowed for:
$1000 for sail+mast+boom+taxes
$3000 for the board with taxes in - now slingshot 150 on sale @ 2-rad for $2000
$2000 for the foil - now slingshot F1 and H9 more around $1000 @ 2-rad too
as others have stated there are cheaper options
older board, used 5.5 sail, etc
can't wait to try Vincent's foil @ OKA !!
have NOT seen the wings here --- yet

Sailed with a bunch if guys on Aeroforce Wings.
Curt Thiessen was the fastest, followed closely by George Greenough and several local guys.
Never seemed fast to me or particularly rangy. |

George Greenough was in a different league, but never an active racer. Out and about, he was a stellar performer with few peers. A real pioneer with rigs and boards like no one else, and fins to die for. |

I got a chance to see one close up daily at the Duotone Pro Center Torbole on Lake Garda. I watched pros-Michael Rossmeier-very good sailors & average sailors use it.
Observations. Be ready to pump no matter how good you are. You will always be ghosting along no matter how windy it is. You need to be comfortable moving around on the board with a leash with both feet & arms: not a big deal but it does take some getting used to. No current at Garda so staying up wind when not on a foil was not problem. Beach storage between sessions can be an issue in a windy location. At Garda they turned the wing upside down & placed a big, heavy bean bag on the wing to keep it from blowing away. Even with that, a gust flipped the wing over & it would have blown down the beach through a large crowd if I wasn't there to catch it. After that incident they either store it inside the shed or deflated it.
Very light, easy to handle, pack up & carry. I can see it as a big draw for SUP people in that annoying wind that is on the edge of planing consistently but a real PITA to paddle into.

Guys here are getting pretty good with the wings. They all say its easy and not that hard on the arms. All on SUP foil boards and huge surf foils. They said that the foil placement on a wind foil board might make it difficult to fly. Even with their foil placement they said that had to get well behind the foil balance point to get up.. |

We use harness when Kitewing-ing on ice in winter. Should work on the soft water as well.
