That's also a more suitable place for the harness lines.

Responding to Ugly_Bird's thought about the lack of mast foot pressure. I think wing sails held at the right angle develop enough direct lift to offset the lack of mast foot pressure, maybe even at most angles.
Boardsurfr, I'm hoping the different wing angles will allow going upwind on a regular SUP reasonably well.
Kevinkan, I want to try an MW sail. I think a few years from now, along with foiling and the new versions of "wing" sails, we will still have regular regular windsurfing and some will be MW sails.
I'm still without any direct experience of any version of wing sails or foils or SUPs with sails, so my thoughts are just speculation.

First session on the Slingwing and the wind was too light.
I had to hold up the wing a lot, the wind would not support it. I would say gusting at under 10 mph or less. Wind was on shore and I never got far off the shore as I could only go down wind.
I thought it would be fun on the SUP in 5+ knots, but it was not.
Maybe a larger, lighter wing would work better in those extreme light wind conditions.
No kites were up or even thinking about launching.
My friend rigged a 7.5 Ezzy sail on a WindSUP board and I tried that and it was fun! Went upwind and out with no issues and the sail was stable, like holding onto a railing.
So right now for the ultra light wind a WindSUP with a large sail is the best option.
I plan on getting another wing for light wind. Thinking about the Duotone 5 or the Ozone 6.

hafta say it
in light wind a longboard with a large sail is still the best option
often Sylvain and I are the ONLY ones out in the light winds here
he rides a kite foil with a 20 m² kite
i will be on a Mistral Equipe 2 XR with an 8.5 or 10 meter sail
jlooby from Ontario says slingshot foil replaced his longboard in light wind
can go in 7-8 knots
i start in 10 knots - not spending for the 2 knots and the thrill of it
YET

Just wait until the new material that Ocean Rodeo has launched finds its way into these (and hopefully sails) could drop weights by +30% while adding stiffness.
A local kiter has the Gong 5m, he seems to think that it's closer to windsurfing than kiting. I was offered a try but he disappeared downwind for a few hours and I packed up before he walked back.
