Hi Gang,

We usually move the forecast time to 7:30 AM in September but this year we are doing it early. With the North Pacific High being so far northward eddies have gone from a once a season event to being very common. And the forecast is often determined by the existence, size, location and fate of the. And, with shorter days, the satellite imagery is too dark see the eddy in the pre forecast time.

If you are wondering why eddies have become so common stand by. We are working on a blog giving the basic meteorology behind this change. But I will give you a hint. Part of the North Pacific High has been spending a lot of time in the Bering Sea into the Arctic Sea and Alaska. It should be centered off the Pacific Northwest this time of year.

Mike
