I should have looked at the pictures more closely. Good catch by Manu. I assumed this was a similar issue like the one I had with a Chinook carbon boom. That one looked a bit bent on shore after a session. After some pulling, it broke completely.
Your problem is a much better one to have since it can be fixed. Good catch by Manu! |

The boom is not broken. It’s asymmetry results from one of the Twist-Loc rings becoming unseated or too loose to press the plastic fingers into the grooves. The right side shows 11 exposed grooves, while the left more than 14. Outhaul tension creates a compressive force between the tail piece in boom clamp. A loose or worn lock ring will allow this to occur.
Just remove the tail piece, check for damage and, assuming none, replace. Then take great care not to over tighten the lock rings. This causes undue wear to occur on the tiny ramps inside the ring. The ring’s design allows it to wear from normal use and still secure the fingers by simply turning the ring farther. It needs hardly any tension to secure the fingers, and more tension does nothing but accelerate the wear. _________________ Support Your Sport. Join US Windsurfing!
