It was quite windy (I think 15+ knots) when I did that wing + longboard session that people are linking to. If there's not a strong steady wind to hold up the wing and give pressure and feedback then the wing is just annoying and a sail works a lot better. -james _________________ James' Blog: Windsurfing Equipment Size Calculator

The wing guys here do not do well up wind until they lift and get on foil. Most of them are some sort of SUP. In weak wind, if they try to head up wind the wing becomes difficult to control. One of the best windsurfers here went out on his new wing without a foil and could only go down wind. He ended up walking back. |

Thanks

My Duotone boom took a lot of beating yesterday when the wind suddenly increased to 40 knts and I had to land on a rocky beach; it survived. |

Going upwind is much harder with a wing than with a regular sail unless you are on a foil. Also, in a light wind your hands get tired with a wing while they are relaxed on a regular sail. |
