I have an older Chinook carbon boom with water trapped in the boom arms.
Any ideas on how I can get it out? (I've tried just leaving it out in the sun to heat it up, that doesn't do much). |

An ounce of water makes a lot of racket without affecting performance. I'd try first to guess at the amount of water in there.
There's got to be a plug somewhere. Remove it, empty the boom, and hope you can achieve a good seal.
Last ditch option is Lee's styrofoam plugs. I stuffed all my booms end to end with styrofoam in the '80s, but haven't had that problem since then. (Ya buy or scrounge a block of styrofoam, sharpen one end of the straight section of an old metal boom arm, twist and shove the section through the foam block to make plugs a few feet long, then shove the plugs through your boom and ... ya hope ... reseal the ends.)
When I get good enough to compete at the world freestyle level, I'll probably worry about a trickle of water in my booms.
Oh, that's right; I don't care about freestyle. Maybe THAT'S why I don't check my booms for an ounce of water in them. SURELY it's the only reason I don't compete at the world freestyle level. |
