Hi Gang,

Frequently I mention the winds at 1000 feet aloft (@975 mb.) in my forecasts which I am sure puzzles some of you. After all, your kite lines or mast extends mere feet into the atmosphere so why should you care about the winds 1000 feet aloft. Today it is very easy to visualize why these winds aloft matter.

Today, August 5, we are seeing very strong westerly winds on the San Francisco Bay Area ridgetops this morning as an upper trough at about 18,000 feet passes over us. Looking at the wind map of the Bay Area this morning at 7:35 notice how most of the Bay Area only has weak winds.

But also notice how the winds accelerate from Benicia to Sherman Island. This blog tells the story behind those winds.

What are the new experimental weather stations we see. What makes them experimental? Crissy field - offshore experimental, Alcatraz- experimental.

Our numerical modeling office is busy working on AI to improve the forecasts so I would guess that is an experiment they are work on.

If you are using the newer iwindsurf.com or ikitesurf.com and if you zoom in around the Bay Area you will see some sensors in green. These are installations of our revolutionary consumer Tempest weather station which is the first weather station with ZERO moving parts.

With AI it has the best weather forecasts.

The Tempest is compatible with most Smart Home devices and integrates with Alexa, Siri, GoogleAssistant etc.

We are starting international sales this week as our 2nd. factory becomes operational.

Those spots are Nowcast spots. It's not live station data but, instead, data derived from a combination of high-resolution model grids and adjustments based on nearby observations to give you a very solid estimate of the conditions at those points.

I hope that helps!
Kind Regards,
