Medicine is complicated, and Trump doesn’t have the mental capacity to consider things that are complicated.

Evidence grows that COVID is, when it is severe, a blood disease and a condition that over hypes the immune system. The article—which is based on very limited data—suggests that hydroxy may have some benefits for some blood types.

There are something like 250 vaccine efforts, and one in the US that shows promise. And multiple modifications to treatments that doctors have figured out that have cut the death rate. All more useful paths for exploration than Trump’s careless promotion of hydroxy. One thing remains that should cause us to be cautious in our optimism. There is no clear conclusion that contracting COVID confers any long term immunity.

I agree with Dr. Laura's tirade: OF COURSE it's the woman's right to choose ... WHETHER TO SPREAD HER LEGS. Beyond that point biology takes over. Neither she nor Obama has the right to let a viable newborn die on the slab just because Mommy Dearest no longer wants it.

So did Trump get paid—like he does for product placement—or was he just gulled by the conspiracy folks? I’m betting somebody got paid.

And there is a report in the local paper that his “Melba toast” research paper into rodent ears may have been faked.

So is Trump tone deaf to scammers—or does he gravitate towards them?

In this mornings papers it is reported that a two drug combination, remdesivir and interferon, is showing promise in fighting COVID. Studies at UCSF—in the Golden state. Hurray for science and higher education. The death rate for those hospitalized by COVID Has steadily diminished.

More than 5 million people worldwide have now died from COVID-19, according to data tracking by Johns Hopkins University. The global case count is nearly 250 million.

The official death tally reached 5,004,524 million as of late Monday, but that number is certainly an undercount. Some experts suspect the actual death toll may be as high as 10 million.

The milestone comes as cases and deaths are on the decline in the US. This summer's wave of cases driven by the hypertransmissible delta variant is finally subsiding. But cases are still quite high and now hovering around 73,000 a day.

In a weekly report from October 26, the World Health Organization noted that the US still accounts for the highest number of new cases worldwide. Overall, the US leads the world with the highest case count (nearly 46 million currently) and the highest death tally (over 745,000).

Following the US, the countries with the next-highest overall case counts are (in order): India, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Russia. Currently, the UK is reporting the second-highest number of new cases worldwide with Russia reporting the third highest. Russia is also experiencing a surge in cases, with a 25 percent increase in daily cases over the last two weeks.

Brazil, India, Mexico, and Russia follow the US in top death counts overall in the pandemic.
