Hi Gang,
We are starting the One/Day Southern California and Central California coast forecasts tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 24.
For most of this winter, the North Pacific High has been unusually far north except when storms hit. This has led to the 2nd in a row great season in Baja. And it promises an early start to the California coast season.
This image shows the North Pacific High's surface NW winds today. They are a long way from the coast but when that storm departs they will move closer.

Interesting, because when I click on the new Pro Forecast and then San Francisco, it just displays an old SAMPLE.

Hi Windward1,
Sorry for the confusion. The title of this post is:
SoCal & Central California forecasts start Friday Feb 24
The San Francisco Bay Area forecasts start March 11.
Historically in normal years the North Pacific High's surface NW winds first start in Baja Norte then move into Southern California waters, then San Francisco waters then the North Pacific High centers west of the Gorge.
Hence, the staggered regional beginning of the forecast season.
Of course, the new norm is abnormal.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the explanation.
Santa Cruz sometimes gets thrown into northern California designations, sometimes central California. When I click on Santa Cruz sites on iWindsurf, it usually seems to have them grouped with San Francisco.
Some think of San Francisco as central California as about a third of the state exists north of there. However, that is much more rare.
Again, thanks, and I will await the 11th. Not sure there is much good weather going to happen before then anyway. ;(
But I am happy for the rain and snow elevating the levels of Lake Lopez and Lake Isabella. I hope to windsurf them this summer.

Hi Windward1,
I know that confusion about Santa Cruz area being Northern California coast vs. being Central California coast. But our placement is based on meteorology not tradition.
A bunch of wind factors are different between the Jalama to Monterey zone vs. the Santa Cruz north zone.
1. Those beloved/hated eddies focus in the Bodega to Natural Bridges zone making the coast winds different than further south.
2. The Monterey eddy and downslope heating make the Santa Cruz area have different winds than further south.
3. The max upwelling zone from the spring NW winds is for Santa Cruz northward making the fog patterns different than further south.
4. etc.
So it makes sense to have those sites grouped with the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Good explanation. Based on Science. I like it!
I will just have to accept being lumped in with my San Francisco brethren.

As a old time surfer fart since 1966, Santa Cruz is Nor Cal.
Big Sur S is Northern Cen Cal.
