Hi Gang,

As Global Weirding progresses we are sometimes seeing NW clearing winds at odd times like September. If my forecast is still right we see NW winds begin to ramp up Wednesday Sept. 27 and peak Thursday and Friday.

This blog of the entire Pacific Ocean covers the time frame from last Saturday when the storm began to build through Thursday.

It was 20 at TI today, solid 18 at the reef, with gusts to near 25. Clearing wind today. Hoorah!

Perhaps time to rename the newest sensor outside "Albany Racetrack Bay"?

A few folks get confused regarding "Berkeley Reef" given that "Berkeley Shoals" are between His Lords and E-Ville - much further south?

Just a thought....

Hi windsrf,

Good thought, However...

Our Berkeley Reef sensor is on Federal Aid to Navigation and Berkeley Reef is an official place name use in maritime navigation like you see in our SailFlow.com chart below.

It is easy to forget that all our Nav. Aid wind sensors nationwide were installed for maritime uses like ship, ferry, boat traffic, Search and Rescue, NWS, NOAA and military operations.

Some of those Nav. Aid sensors just happen to be in locations useful to windsurfers/kiter/wingers.

It is unlikely we would have gotten permission from the DoD to put a sensor on Federal Aids of Navigation to help windsurfers.

The good news is that we can name our land based sensors what ever we want. So if there is ever enough demand for a Race Track sensor we will give it a cool name.

That's a great map!
Is that available?
If so, would you mind linking it?
Thanks.

Hi bipbip,

I use that version of the Weatherflow wind map when doing forecasts for yacht races like the Rolex Cup. But it is also useful for those of you who really cruise the Bay rather than just going back and forth.

You can use this link to get to the map.

The graphic below shows how to get any Weatherflow/IW page into Nautical Map mode.

Have fun,

Mike
