(I got a couple good suggestions on another forum, but since the twist lock kits seem to have disappeared from the world, I ask here, too.)

I need to cut down a Fiberspar boom a few inches to better fit my smaller (foil) sail quiver. I have done this before, but now I can't find anybody who has the twist lock kit. I have had good service from several Fiberspar booms, and I want to keep using them. Yes, they're old, but they're stiff as granite and fairly light. Never broken one.

Has anybody tried to remove the existing twist lock without cutting it off?

Is is perhaps possible to heat the glue joint with a heat gun (not too hot, of course) to soften it? Then twist off the existing lock?

Thanks in advance.

I have tried to boil the ends in hot water, and other efforts.. whatever glue they used will not budge... I just trashed them and used other booms

The repair kits had epoxy for glue, so i would be surprised if heat would loosen it. I would cut the boom tube close to the twist lock. Then clamp it in a drill press and carefully drill out the carbon boom material with a large bit. A small machine shop might do a better job.
Good luck!
Or buy a new boom
